Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation provides services that are culturally sensitive but are primarily indirect in nature for children ages birth to six who are in childcare or early education settings
such as Head Start and Early Head Start. The Mental Health Consultant provides a variety of services, including capacity building for staff and family members involved in the child’s care, direct observations of the child and the child’s environment, as well as helping staff and family apply interventions to assist in
targeting the presenting concerns. In this capacity, the MHC works closely with all of the child’s caregivers, including administrators, staff, and family members.
Integrated Wellness Group has an active collaboration with the New Haven Board of Education to provide Mental Health Consultation services to all their Head Start sites as well as for Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. (TVCCA) Head Start in Southeastern CT. Services provided include: developmental screenings of all children enrolled; classroom observations for all children presenting challenging behaviors, child-specific interventions to help teachers decrease challenging behaviors; referrals to community agencies for children and families that require or request more intensive services than those provided in the classroom; assessment of classroom environments and teacher-student interactions; as well as parent and teacher trainings.
