Educational Advocacy

IWG provides educational advocacy to children and their families who have been identified by our agency or community agencies as being in need of special education services. Such services improve not only educational opportunities and success in school, but also impact a child's continued growth and development in the community. Our Educational Advocates apply their work in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), a law ensuring service for children with disabilities. Additionally, Educational Advocates assist parents in understanding their rights and the rights of their children. Advocating for a child and his/her family includes: attending school meetings and Planning and Placement Team meetings; educating parents on becoming advocates for their children, and supporting families in educationally-based forums.
